Villamartin Golf Course, Costa Blanca – Comaskey Properties

Villmartin Golf Course, Costa Blanca

Villamartin is the oldest and most established course on the whole Costa Blanca and many people still refer to the general Orihuela Costa region with its numerous new developments as simply ‘VillaMartin’ . That shows us how popular the Villa Martin course quickly became after it opened in 1972. Popularity dipped when the owners concentrated their resources on the other projects, mostly La Finca and Las Ramblas, two fine courses in their own right, and as popularity dropped so did the quality of the course. That all changed recently as the builders QUARA worked their way through the recession and redeveloped the club house, the entrance, which now looks beautiful and the golf course itself.

Designed by Paul Putman all those years ago, Villamartin hosted the 1994 PGA Mediterranean Open but lost its position on the PGA tour due to a tree situated on the fairway of the 18th.
During the ´94´ event many of the professionals were hitting the tree off the tee even with their perfectly hit tee shot. (It was never a problem for me) The PGA tour asked the Villamartin members to cut the tree, they refused and the tour moved elsewhere!

A challenging par 72 measuring 6.132 metres, if you are doing a golf tour of the Costa Blanca, you must play here. Las Ramblas is the second of the three Golf Courses that make up the QUARA Group of courses, the other two being La Finca and Villamartin. This particular one opened in 1990.  This golf course is a work of Pepe Gancedo, a famous developer in the area and what a course Pepe designed. They say he stamps his imaginative and innovative character all over his golf resorts and Las Ramblas has those characteristics in spades. It’s a very under estimated course and some of the reports you will find online are every unfair. What it’s not is a place to take your driver off every tee, the golfer must think their way around las ramblas and we sometimes find that difficult.

The third hole is a par 5 with a blind tee shot. The driver may help your ball find the fairway and leave you just an iron to the green. A seven iron off the tee however means you may actually find your ball on the second shot- a smarter option!

The club house is beautiful as is the practice area, putting greens and driving range when you can really open those shoulders.  Las Ramblas is a cracking course, you will enjoy the scenery, the greens, the tough tee shots- just bring an extra sleeve of balls.  Property on Las Ramblas is mostly centred around their new developments – Great value with super deals available.

New Developments in and around Villamartin prove very popular with those thinking of buying property on the Costa Blanca. Check out these links:-
