La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Playa Flamenca are famed for the sunny days, liquid lunches and the golf course where the hole is just a fraction wider than back home.
Some clients however come here wanting to break sweat in a more athletic environment.
For me the best gym on the Costa Blanca is Maxx gym which takes up all of the top floor of the building right next to the Orihuela Costa Town hall.
Sure, they do the normal super boring stuff, treadmills, rowing machines, lots of free weights etc.
For just 50 euro you can buy ten visits to the gym, perfect for clients who just visit Spain regularly rather than those of us who live here all year round.
Not only can you use the gym, you´d expect that with a gym entry, but the range of classes is pretty good too and is available at no additional fee. I did ¨Body Combat” last week and despite my clear lack of coordination (and the memories of not being able to put one foot in front of another with anything bordering on elegance in the Beehive lounge in my youth), the class was super fun. Better still I wasn’t the only male there.
Lots of high kicking and high pitched, high fiving comes as standard. Other classes are Spinning and Yoga (both of which I also did recently with similar success) pilates and kick boxing.
I see a sign up this week that they are close to opening their terrace for open air classes over looking the beach at Playa Flamenca. I am using a bit of poetic licence here, not really over looking the beach but there will be a superb sea view!!
The sauna and steam room and relaxing and clean. Cleanliness is evident all through the facility in fact.

Bottom line, good gym, friendly staff and friendly clientele, from many countries.
Maxx gym will add a dimension to your visit to the Costa Blanca, the beer afterwards is totally guilt free!!
