Maxx Fitness, Playa Flamenca, Costa Blanca. – Comaskey Properties

Maxx Fitness, Playa Flamenca, Costa Blanca.

On our Comaskey blog, we like to bring you the best of the Costa Blanca and for that reason we are mentioning Maxx Fitness- a terrific gym situated in front of the Mercadona at Playa Flamenca.
We’ve talked before about other gyms – Cross Fit Torrevieja, and Momo gym at the La Zenia Boulevard for example. CrossFit became too competitive (for me at least) and lifting the weight was to the instructors more important than a safe technique. The main disadvantage of Momo is that it is now closed!!
Maxx have taken up the challenge and really are filling the gap that exists in the health and fitness market here on the Costa Blanca.
They have the usual stuff- Cardio, free weights and all you’d expect – the view of the Mediterranean being a nice bonus.
We want to mention a couple of classes however.

The functional training (every day 10 am and 7pm) is a high intensity intermittent training session taking about 30 minutes or so. In fact, it’s not unlike CrossFit except with more body weight exercises and it’s so much safer for those of us who are (almost) 40 and over!
Yoga too is a superb class for those of us who are losing flexibility. Maxx run a yoga class every day but another class worth mentioning is the Body Balance class- a coming together of Tai Chi, Pilates and Yoga. Breathing, stretching and building muscle strength is the main aim here. Did you know that as we approach 40, we lose strength because we no longer have a full range of motion on most of our major joints? It’s all fixable just check out the body balance class.
Lastly, after all this exercise you should head to the sauna. Dr. Rhonda Patrick is considered one of the experts on preventative health in the world and she suggests that amongst other benefits, as little as three 20-minute saunas per week can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by up to 80%. (Please note, we are not doctors- check out Rhonda Patrick on Twitter for more information). The Scandinavians love their saunas for health and wellbeing too, and now with all the health benefits becoming more clear, we should as well.
You’ll find Maxx Gym next to the Orihuela Costa Town hall and its open from 7am to 10 pm.
We highly recommend you check it out and we look forward to seeing your new beach body on the La Zenia beach next summer!!
