The streets of Cabo Roig and La Zenia were lined with 8,000 people on March 17th 2014 for the only St. Patricks day parade in the whole of Spain and the Costa Blanca´s 4th parade in a row.
Waterford’s Ger O´ Shea lead the parade dressed as St. Patrick himself but in the red of Wales. His explanation to RTE television when asked about his choice of colour was that as Patrick was in fact Welsh he needed to keep them happy too. Fair Enough!
It would have been difficult to cover all national colours however – not just multiple accents but there were thousands of Scandinavian, European and Russian revellers enjoying the 25 degree sunshine and the cold refreshments in equal measure.
The spectators were joined by Co. Monaghan politician Padraig Connelly, Kilkenny All star hurler Christy Heffernan, and The Irish army vets.
Local entertainment and floats included many local businesses (Comaskey Properties were in Moscow and therefore could not organise a float in time this year!) ,The Torrevieja pipe band, Costa Blanca Free wheelers, Flamenco dancers, jugglers and even Irish dancers.
Well done once again to the Cabo Roig St. Patricks day committee. We support their fund raising activities whenever we can and its fantastic to see what an excellent show they put on for the people of the Costa Blanca.
