Attractions of Alicante City for Tourists

Alicante is one of the famous cities in Spain. Mediterranean port of Alicante has great historical value. This beautiful city has great castles, resorts and waterfronts which attract tourists from all over the world to visit dynamic and striking Spanish city on Costa Blanca. Airport is just eight miles distance which connects capital of Costa Blanca to European destinations.

As compared to other Spanish cities, Alicante is an attractive and influential place for tourists to visit. Archaeological Museum MARQ in Alicante grabs the attention of tourists as it is given the title of Best European Museum. People who love fresh air and city life can visit beautiful promenades and parks like Ereta Park at Mount Benacantil and Explanada de Espana.

Interesting Things to Do in Alicante

  • Nautical Activities


For water sports lovers, it is an ideal destination where surfing, jet skiing, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, water skiing and diving activities are offered 365 days a year.

  • Tabarca Island


It is one of the must see places where you will not find chain stores, ATM, vehicles and skyscrapers. Only 25% area of island is used by inhabitants whereas 75% area has untouched natural beauty. In Comunidad Valenciana area, Tabarca is the only populated island. Typical food of inhabitants is fish. There are boats which take tourists from Alicante port, Benidorm and Sante Pola to visit island. Crystalline water, rocks and sandy area make visitors spell-bound.

  • Santa Barbara Castle


In 9th Century, Muslims built largest fortress on top of Benancantil Mount which gives striking view of harbor and town. Tourists prefer to walk through Plaza de Carmen and view remarkable sights. People can reach at this destination by using car but it is difficult to find parking slots. Easy route for visiting castle starts from Postiguet beach.

Entry in this amazing castle is free but opening timings get changed according to weather. From April to September, Santa Barbara castle remains open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM however from October to March; castle cannot be visited after 8:00 PM.

  • Archaeological Museum


MARQ Archaeological museum has advanced audiovisual facilities, avant-garde structure and above 80,000 pieces for archaeological study. There are great movies which show life in Alicante from Stone Age, Iberian, Romans Era, Medieval Times to present day. Museum remains open from Tuesday to Sunday.

  • Modern Art Museum Asegurada


Tourists and students of arts love to visit Modern Art Museum to view artistic work of Juan Gris, Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, Joan Miro and Julio Gonzalez. Museum has collection of famous local artists such as Juana Frances and Eusebioa Sempere.

  • Beaches in Alicante


Splendid beaches are one of the reasons to visit Alicante. Postiguet beach is present in the mid of city where people come at day time to take sun bath and enjoy music and cool breeze at night. Volleyball is the favorite game which is played near beach area. San Juan Beach is seven kilometers long and included in finest beaches. To visit this beach, one must travel by tram or bus.

  • Golf Course


In Alicante city, there are five golf courses which have 18 holes. Two golf courses are in center of city and five star hotels. One of them is located near International airport El Altet and other is in San Juan Beach. Three golf courses of 18-hole are outside city area.

  • Shopping in Spanish City


You can purchase leather bags, shoes, and delicious food products like dates, ice cream and turron anywhere in Alicante; however Theatre Street and Maisonnave Street are the two distinctive areas for shopping.
