Spain in the Olympics in Rio 2016

The latest on Spain in the Olympics in Rio 2016 as at today.

 

So the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro are well underway, with Spain currently stacking up five medals already. We can safely say that Spain will be bringing something home.

 

It kicked off with Mireia Belmonte, who at 25 years of age, won the 400 metres women’s individual swimming on Saturday and won the gold for Spain for the 200 metres butterfly. She won the 200 metre race with an impressive swim of 2 mins 4.85 secs, which is the fastest time recorded so far this year. She was also the first to win a gold for Spain this year in any Sport. No one has won a gold for Spain in the Olympic pool since the games in Barcelona back in 1992.

 

Severo Jurado Lopez finished fifth in the Olympic Individual Dressage on Monday, with 97 degrees heat lessening his performance slightly.

 

In total, Spain has tallied up 3 Gold medals & 2 Bronze medals so far, with Rafael Nadal winning the gold in the Men´s Doubles with partner Marc Lopez.

 

Lidia Valentin won bronze in Weightlifting, whilst Maialen Chourraut took home another gold for Spain, the first ever in the Canoe Slalom.
